The Bartlett Collection of Scottish Country Dances is a gathering of arrangements for more than two hundred and fifty set dances. Created by Tom Pixton over a thirty year period, the tune sets comprise music for jigs, strathspeys, reels, waltzes, marches, airs, and songs.
The collection is designed to be used on a tablet, being rather too unwieldy for print. The majority of sets are on one page, although a very few require two-page (landscape) view. All titles in the tables of content are fully interactive. Tapping on any dance or tune title takes the user to that respective content. The house icon at the top of each page takes the user back to the main table of contents.
The collection includes many tunes under copyright for which I have no usage rights. Thus, this collection may not be copied, printed, sold, or disseminated. I am happy to loan the collection as a PDF to those for whom it might prove useful. The collection is updated on a regular basis. Any instance of the collection will be current for only a few months.

Most of the tunes are drawn from the best known published primary sources as well as the many secondary compilations. In addition, I have set many tunes from recordings. and from copies provided by friends.
The task of arranging tune sets for Scottish Country Dance programs is an opportunity to explore a rich legacy of a national music handed down to us in numerous manuscripts and print publications starting in the mid 18th century. That this music was a cherished cultural touchstone is evident in the activity of the many musician-publishers of that time, as well as the community that purchased their publications, the emerging Scottish middle class that not only valued music making in the home but also had leisure time to pursue it.
The Scottish Country Dance dance programs created nowadays reflect the range of social set dancing as practiced from the earliest records up until the present day. In addition to music characterized as reel, jig, or strathspey, we find tunes styled as the polka, two-step, march, and scottishe. From the earliest known Scottish melodies such as Flowers of Edinburgh (c. 1740) to many composed by our contemporaries, the tunes in this collection attest to the vitality of the music that drives our dance.
As these tunes have been in active use by my colleagues and I for many years, some may differ from a published source. And as many tunes that appear in numerous sources typically show melodic variations, we tend to develop our own versions, which are sometimes an amalgam of different sources.
I look forward to many more years with this music, the great folks I play it with, and the support and appreciation of the SCD community everywhere. Together, we strive to uphold the standards of Scottish country dancing and dance musicianship, ... and have a blast doing so!
